Day 19: St. Helens, Oregon to Bend, Oregon
Riding by the Willamette River into Portland, Oregon where we see the streetcars. On to Salem checking out the thrift stores en route. We find an unusual Bodum cup and saucer of a type not previously seen - 99 cents. A Goodwill store sells goods by weight and is heaving. We take diesel at Aurora at $2.99 - glad to find a gallon less than three bucks. We drive through the western Cascades to Detroit, then Sisters - folk are evacuated due to a forest fire so there are no hotel rooms. We carry on to Bend, to the Best Western Inn and Suites. We now have Nevada in our sights.
