Folie de grandeur

I first called for the cancellation of the Olympics back in May. (See: Olympics). Now the story has reached the mainstream press. As the cost soars past £10 billion taxpayers surely know now, if they had failed to spot it, that they are being taken for a ride.
From The Times:
This month Tessa Jowell, the Minister for the Games, admitted that the Government would not have bid for them if it had seen what was coming. “Had we known what we know now, would we have bid for the Olympics? Almost certainly not.”
After the £1 billion Greenwich Dome flop you would have thought they would have seen it coming. Not these sleazebags.
Update: Suppressed report warned government of Olympic folly.

Mad dogs and Englishmen

Some Welsh too! I'm back in Lewes in the UK after an enjoyable Macau Grand Prix. I spent a couple of days staying in Rural Committee Road in Mui Wo on Lantau Island in Hong Kong at the end. We managed a walk starting from Shek Pik reservoir round a peninsula, up and down on a rocky trail. Beers from a fridge in the front room of an old Chinese couple at the end. Then a short walk to Pui O for further light refreshment and noodles and to catch the bus. WiFi on my Acer netbook from Pacific Coffee in Central and lunch at trendy California in Lan Kwai Fong. Never enough time to explore Hong Kong on what was my 23rd visit (I think).

Remember, remember

I'm revving up for bonfire here in Lewes. Somehow you know when the radio show is going well and yesterday was a cracker. I interviewed Martin Spinelli who was inspirational in how he has dealt with personal tragedy. Rick Newth from Cliffe Bonfire Society was his usual controversial self. Both interviews very challenging in different ways.
Last daily show today, then the big bonfire show tomorrow. England expects.
